Residual Weed Control

Residual Weed Control is best done between November and March while most plants are dormant. Keeping the weeds from coming up under gravel driveways can best be done at this time. The weather may not cooperate so it is good for us to have permission to do the treatment when the weather allows us to do so. Get on the list early. Contact Gary at (360) 912-0228 and get on his list to do.

Rats

Rats need to be excluded from your structure at this time. This may require the installation of quarter inch mesh galvanized steel wire hardware cloth over any openings into your structure. (Young mice can squeeze through any opening larger than a quarter inch.) Baiting can then be done on the outside of your structure. Glue boards or traps can then be used on the inside. We do not use baits inside of a structure because the rodent will feed on it then crawls into some space and die causing a foul odor. Keep the baits outside of the structure.

The Carpenter Ants have gone to sleep

The carpenter ants have gone to sleep. It is time to concentrate on other active pests to control at this time. These include spiders, rats, znd residual weed control.

Spiders are mating at this time of year. They maybe very active. We should remember that spiders are beneficial beings. They eat other iinsects. If they are surviving inside of your house there must be other bugs there for them to eat. Perhaps we should concentrate on controlling those other insects. While spiders maybe beneficial it does not mean that we should allow them inside of our houses. We can treat in the corners where they rest. Usually outside perimeter preventive treatments (OPPT) will control them. Call you favorite technician at (360) 457-4341.

Anobiid beetles are common in older structures on the Pennisula. These can be treated by drying the wood out to less than 12% or treating the wood with Borate salts. This pickles the wood and makes it uninhabitable to the insect. One pound of Borates are needed per 100 to 200 square feet of wood. The area of the subfloor and the size of the josts should be measured to determine the amount of material needed. John Mason can be called on his cell phone directly at (360) 828-2457.
